Our Story
A family farm, six generations deep — and the leap of faith that put real milk back on the doorstep.
250 Years on Sussex Soil
The Hook family have worked the land in East Sussex for over two and a half centuries. In 1991, Phil and Steve Hook took on Longleys Farm in Hailsham, and by 2000 they had converted the whole farm to certified organic.
But like dairy farmers across the country, they were being paid less for their milk than it cost to produce. Something had to change.
It Started With Twelve Bottles
Rather than sell their milk for a pittance, Phil and Steve decided to sell it directly to the people who would drink it. They secured a raw milk licence, filled twelve bottles from a churn in the farmhouse kitchen, and delivered them around Hailsham in Phil’s Volvo Estate.
People tasted the difference immediately. Twelve bottles became a round; a round became a movement. In came a proper bottling machine, a traditional milk float, and rounds reaching out to Eastbourne, Hastings and Lewes. We went on to become the first farm in the country to start a courier delivery service for raw milk — putting real milk within reach of the whole UK.
We didn’t set out to start a raw milk revolution. We just wanted a fair price for honest milk.
